YIN & YANG
The concept of YIN & YANG has been written about for thousands of years and passed down in both story and text to forms the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine as we know it today.
Often seen as a popular tattoo, or symbol of Feng Shui, the YIN & YANG symbolizes balance. When we are in balance, we are in optimal health. We can look further into this concept with examples such as sun and moon, male and female. For example, the Yang energy is said to be more masculine, the Yin energy more Feminine.
All Chinese Medicine is based on this concept. Both Chinese Herbal therapy and Acupuncture use this concept to bring the body back into balance. When Yin & Yang exist, life exists. When Yang is strong, Yin is weak. When Yin is strong, Yang may be weak. We need both for life to exist. When one of these elements is no longer, life ceases.
The organs of the body can be categorized as either Yin or Yang. Like western Medicine, the organs have a bodily function, but they can also be associated with a particular emotion, and time of day (body clock). Symptoms can also be placed into categories, and associated with particular organs.
We can use the pulse to diagnose which organs are unbalanced or more “Yang” or “Yin” . Points are then used to bring the body back into balance as needed.
I will often use body points that are on the opposite side of the body or points that have a specific function to bring about the balance and therefore reduce or build up the Yin and Yang energy.
